Cyclone Gaja relief coordination portal

When Cyclone Gaja struck Tamil Nadu’s Delta districts in November 2018, Sirpigal built and ran an online portal to coordinate rescue, relief and rehabilitation.

The portal brought together, in one place:

• Requests for help from affected families, and the list of open requests
• Relief camps and their availability
• Collection centres for relief materials across districts
• Finding and reporting missing persons
• Volunteers and service providers (transport, medical and more) offering support
• Weather updates, safety tips, emergency helplines (State and District Emergency Operations Centre: 1070) and the CM Relief Fund

Affected areas included Nagapattinam, Vedaranyam, Kodiyakarai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Thiruthuraipoondi, Mannargudi and Kottur.
